The Division of Recreational Sports offers graduate assistantships in conjunction with the Department of Educational Administration. Graduate assistants are afforded the opportunity to expand their graduate experience through employment in a comprehensive collegiate recreational sports program. Individuals will gain experience relative to decision-making, leadership skills, problem solving, team building, assessment and evaluation, marketing, publicity and public relations, program development, budgetary planning and implementation, and supervisory skills. Upon completion of the program, students will have gained experience which will allow them to move confidently into full-time employment within a recreational sports administrative setting.
Graduate assistants work during the fall, spring and summer of their first year, and during the fall and spring of their second year of employment. Graduate assistants are paid a monthly stipend in addition to qualifying for in-stagte tuition, inidividuals have access to the University's comprehensive insurance/fringe benefit package and receive a travel budget to assist in professional development activities.
Graduate assistantship eligibility with the Division of Recreational Sports is based on the following criteria:
- acceptance into a University of Texas Graduate School program. (Application deadlines vary; please consult the appropriate school.)
- pursuit of a graduate studies curriculum in Higher Education/Student Personnel Administration or a related field.
- pursuit of a career path that includes collegiate recreational sports administration, student affairs administration or a closely-related field.
- Graduate assistants must maintain all graduate school enrollment criteria and departmental standards, and performance and progression requirements to sustain eligibility.
No Graduate Assistantship positions are available for the 2007-08 academic year.
