FREE Workshop: Intro to Group Cycling

Are you new to group cycling? Check out this FREE class designed to teach riders the mechanics of proper set up, form, and everything you need to know to get started in our amazing group cycling classes! The class is free and offered to the first 28 participants that request a laminated cycling pass at the ID scanner desk. You will spend 10 minutes on the bike learning proper set up, 45 minutes on the bike, and 5 minutes of relaxation on the floor. Participants must bring a water bottle and towel.

Are you new to step? Check out this FREE class designed to teach participants the basics behind step classes and many of the moves that you see in a lot of our great TeXercise classes here. You will spend 30 minutes going over and practicing basic step moves and then wrap it all up with a 30-minute mini-step class! The class is free and offered to the first 40 participants that request a laminated pass at the ID scanner desk.

Personal Training Instruction (PTI) Course
16 Sessions - $215 (RecSports membership required)

Wednesdays (3:30-5pm) and Sundays (3:30-5:30pm) Sept. 22 - Nov. 14 (Read locations carefully.)

Price includes an ACE Personal Training manual and 2 DVDs. (Over $100 value.) Course will meet in GRE Gym Classroom (GRE 1.104) on all dates except: Class will meet in RSC Games Room (RSC 2.104) on 9/29, 10/20, 11/7, and 11/10. Please mark your calendars.

Interested in learning how to become a personal trainer and to prepare for your certification exam at the same time? This course is for you! PTI will prepare you for the ACE (American Council on Exercise) Personal Training Certification Exam and includes both lecture and practical application. Participants will learn exercise science, fitness assessment, exercise programming and design, instructional and spotting techniques, and basic nutrition and lifestyle modification. Please note: Attendance is extremely important, as makeups are not available. Spots fill quickly and this course is only offered in the fall semester each year.

Sessions are 45-minutes in length.

Consult with Haley H., a Registered Dietician and Certified Personal Trainer. She will provide advanced nutrition consulting, tips on meal planning, nutrient and caloric intake, food choices and journaling, and will also address other nutritional concerns and questions that you may have. Appointments are required and available Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9pm in the Personal Training Studio Office (RSC 1.145) at the Recreational Sports Center or in Gregory Gym. Please note: All Nutrition Consulting clients must turn in a completed participant packet at the time of registration (before appointment) and come prepared to appointment with specific information.

Small Group Personal Training Series - Fall 2010
Get fit in a small group setting! Sign up with people you know - or individually.

Group Training is a great option for those seeking high quality training, a motivating group, and a less expensive option than one-on-one personal training.  Sessions are led by a Certified Personal Trainer that will provide motivation, accountability, program design, and safety modifications to each member of the group.  Non-member pricing is now available to UT faculty and staff.

Eating & Exercise Success
12 sessions / 6 weeks
This six-week series will help identify pitfalls in your eating and exercise habits and outline new behaviors for success. Led by Haley H., a Registered Dietician and Certified Personal Trainer. Record keeping via food log and exercise journal will be addressed. Each session involves a 15-minute review of food journal follwed by a great 45-minute workout.

Hard "Core" Training
12 sessions / 6 weeks
This six-week series invovles functional strength, high-intensity cardio, and a focus on core work. It is ideal for anyone who wants to achieve maximum results, concentrate on functional strength training, and emphasize core training (abdominals, lower back, and trunk). Led by David L., this class will utilize Clark Field and the Personal Training Studio at the RSC.

Fitness Boot Camp Training

This six-week series is a mix of cardio and circuit training on machines designed to teach you how to use the weight room effectively. Ideal for anyone new to fitness, desiring education, experience, and confidence in the weight room, and who is interested in developing a routine to use on their own. Led by Helen S., this series will utilize the RSC weight room and RSC 1.106.

Yoga Strength and Conditioning

This group training series invovles a blend of cardio, strength, flexibility, and yoga training.  It provides a healthy and balanced approach to fitness with the added benefit of yoga and flexibility training.    Led by Helen S., this series will utilize RSC 1.106.

Instructor Training Series (ITS)

Fitness Instructor Training Series
Learn how to teach group fitness classes through this comprehensive training series! No previous experience necessary. Learn how to count and cue music, the necessary elements of a fitness class, how to teach multiple formats, and how to use and teach proper form and technique. Please note: you must be able to attend all sessions. This series serves as a foundation to seek a national group fitness certification.  This series is not designed for those wanting to learn to become mind/body or group cycling instructors.

Yoga Instructor Training Series
This informative series provides aspiring yoga instructors with the tools to create and teach safe, fun, dynamic yoga classes. It will cover safety, cueing and execution of proper form in yoga poses, transitions and modifications, class formats, communication skills, and much more. Please note: you must be able to attend all sessions. This series is not a certification and is not designed for experienced yoga instructors. Participants MUST have experience taking 2 or more semesters of yoga classes prior to this series.

Pilates Instructor Training Series
Interested in learning to teach Pilates? This series was created to teach individuals the fundamentals, alignment, movement, and basic philosophy behind the Pilates method. Please note: you must be able to attend all sessions. This series is not a certification and is not designed for experienced Pilates instructors. Participants MUST have experience taking 1 or more semesters of Pilates classes prior to this series.
