In January, 2009, the Board of Regents accepted a gift from Sylvie and Gary Crum of Houston to establish the Sylvie and Gary Crum Endowed Scholarship to benefit the Division of Recreational Sports.
Gary Crum received a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from SMU in 1969, and an MBA degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1972. Sylvie Crum received a Bachelor’s degree in French from The University of Texas at Austin in 1974. Mr. and Mrs. Crum have three children: Ashley, who graduated from SMU in 2003 with a BBA in marketing; Christopher, who graduated from SMU in 2005 with a BBA in finance; and Clayton, a sophomore at The University of Texas. The couple appreciates the value of sports in the overall college experience and is proud to award a scholarship to an outstanding student employee.
Mr. Crum is past chairman and currently serves on the Advisory Council of the McCombs School of Business and is on the Board of Trustees of the MBA Investment Fund at The University of Texas at Austin, and the McCombs Foundation. He also serves on the Boards of Trustees for the AIM Foundation and the CFP Foundation.
Mrs. Crum currently serves on the board of the CFP Foundation. In addition, at The University of Texas at Austin, she is a Regent’s representative on the Intercollegiate Athletic Council for Women and the past chairman of the Longhorn Foundation Advisory Council and a member of the RecSports Leadership Team.
Scholarship Recipients
Funds distributed from the endowment enable the division to provide scholarships annually. Occurring each spring semester, the selection process is open to full-time undergraduate students who have reached junior or senior status, with a 2.5 minimum GPA and who have been employed by Recreational Sports during one or more academic years. The Crum Scholarship selection committee seeks candidates who:

The recipient of the Sylvie& Gary Crum Scholarship, Sabrina Koh, is from Cedar Park, Texas. She works in the Business Office as a cashier and accounting office assistant. She is a senior majoring in Accounting and minoring in Marketing. Sabrina has volunteered with Foundation Communities Tax Centers as a tax preparer and is actively involved with the Chinese Student Association and Partnership to Advance Language Study.
