The Early Birds are a group of former UT faculty and Austin community members that exercised daily in Gregory Gym, beginning in 1962. They attribute their health and vitality to the opportunities they had with physical fitness. To honor their legacy, Co-Chairs Stan Burnham, Bob Armstrong, Chrys Dougherty and Lloyd Lochridge have teamed up to initiate an effort to establish a permanent, endowed scholarship in honor of the Early Birds. Scholarship Recipients
Funds distributed from the endowment will enable the division to provide scholarships annually. Occurring each spring semester, the selection process is open to full-time undergraduate students who have reached junior or senior status, with a 2.5 minimum GPA and who have been employed by Recreational Sports during one or more academic years. The Early Birds Scholarship selection committee seeks candidates who:
• Demonstrate commitment to Early Bird values – responsibility, commitment, and dedication
• Provide beneficial, outstanding leadership to those around them
• Go above and beyond their responsibilities on a regular basis
• Represent the Division of Recreational Sports in a positive and favorable manner at all times

Make a Scholarship Contribution
It is the Co-Chairs desire to increase the endowment principal to a minimum of $100,000 in scholarship funds that will be awarded each fall semester. In order to achieve this goal, they hope to enlist the support of other former Early Birds, Recreational Sports employees and participants.
Your tax-deductible contributions to the endowment are welcomed and planned gifts are encouraged.
