Phi Gamma Delta endowed scholarship

Phi Gamma Delta was, and continues to be, a dominant force in intramural sports at the University of Texas. To recognize and honor our fraternity’s outstanding success, particularly during the 1960s, many of our Fiji brothers are partnering with UT Austin’s Division of Recreational Sports to establish a permanent endowment in honor of our great fraternity and those representatives who accomplished so much on the amateur athletic fields during the 1960s. With recognition to be forever displayed in Gregory Gymnasium, this endowment will provide scholarship funds to both present and future student employees who work so hard to make intramural sports a cornerstone of the UT experience.
We invite you to join in this exciting endeavor. It is our hope that the endowment principal will grow over time so that more and more student leaders will have the continuing opportunity to promote intramural sports at the University. To help us achieve this goal, we are asking for the support of as many Fijis as possible. No gift is too large or too small. Please consider this opportunity to give back to the great institution and the many programs there that so shaped our lives.
Sincerely,

Scholarship Recipients
Funds distributed from the endowment will enable the division to provide scholarships annually. Occurring each spring semester, the selection process is open to full-time undergraduate students who have reached junior or senior status, with a 2.5 minimum GPA and who have been employed by Recreational Sports during one or more academic years. The Fiji Scholarship selection committee seeks candidates who:
• Demonstrate commitment to Fiji values – friendship, knowledge, service, morality, and excellence
• Provide beneficial, outstanding leadership to those around them
• Go above and beyond their responsibilities on a regular basis
• Represent the Division of Recreational Sports in a positive and favorable manner at all times

The 2011 recipient of the Phi Gamma Delta Endowed Scholarship is Sara Burnett, a senior majoring in Geography from Austin. She works with the Outdoor Recreation program as an equipment manager, an Adventure Trip program assistant and guide. She credits RecSports with the opportunities she needed to discover her passion and now she hopes to pursue a masters degree in public health, social work or recreation therapy.
