Lauren, a senior from Albuquerque, New Mexico, is working on a Masters in Professional Accounting degree. She has worked as a group cycling instructor for the past three semesters.

What sparked your interest about working for RecSports?
I participated actively in the Group Cycling program when it first started in Fall 2007. I loved it so much that I thought it would be an amazing idea to be an instructor and share the excitement and happiness I felt after a spin class with others.

Describe how working at RecSports helped influence your college career?
I have met so many great people that have inspired me to work hard and enjoy what I do. The entire RecSports staff is always so energetic it is hard not to join in and put forth that effort into everything I do at school. My position has made me comfortable speaking to large groups and getting to know people I do not know. RecSports has enhanced my college career for the better more than I thought possible.

What memories will you remember most fondly as you look back at your time as a RecSports employee?
I will remember the participants faces after they have finished a class when they are so proud of themselves for accomplishing a goal that day. Just knowing that I was there to help is so gratifying, and I will never forget that feeling and the memories.

What does winning a RecSports Student Employee Scholarship mean to you? What will you do with the winnings?
Winning this scholarship means a great deal to me. I am personally funding my education so the money will definitely go towards helping with that and paying off loans. I sincerely appreciate the generosity of programs like RecSports in helping students like me. This scholarship will allow me to focus more attention on my studies and less on worrying about my finances.

What are plans following graduation?
I plan to take the CPA exam and work for a public accounting firm in Washington, D.C. I would love to continue teaching cycling in a gym around my area and possibly participate in the Team in Training, a team dedicated to raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. I hope to participate in various events throughout the year to help this cause and the people it supports.
