Melissa, a pre-pharmacy major from Houston, Texas, has worked in the division's accounting department for the past two years and is an intramural participant.

What sparked your interest about working for RecSports?
I started my job here simply by going to one of the job fairs my freshmen year. That was one of the best decisions of my college career. I found a place that I love to work, was flexible with my student schedule and helped keep me physically fit. I would feel too guilty not exercising when I work at a gym!

Describe how working at RecSports helped influence your college career?
It has definitely made me more disciplined and responsible in all areas of my life including academics. Working here has also improved my interpersonal communications skills, which are very valuable in my classes.

What memories will you remember most fondly as you look back at your time as a RecSports employee?
My fondest memories are of the times we in the accounting office bonded together while working. We learned to both work and play together, which brought us all closer together and forged amazing friendships.

What does winning a RecSports Student Employee Scholarship mean to you? What will you do with the winnings?
The funds I receive from this scholarship is all going to paying for tuition. Winning the scholarship has been an amazing experience. It feels great to receive recognition for your work and it has provided me with more motivation to keep challenging myself and to do better.

What are plans following graduation?
Following graduation I would like to attend pharmacy school, at UT hopefully. When finally graduated, I would like to practice hospital pharmacy and, if possible, travel a bit before settling down in my new career.
