In 1919 Anna Hiss began the first formal woman’s activity program on campus. Organized around club sports, these women participated for points in order to win letter awards. In 1933 a separate Women’s Intramural Program was started and became a tradition on campus until merging with the men’s program in 1972 to form the Division of Recreational Sports. Women’s participation in this program increased even more with the founding of a formal coed Intramural Program in 1974. We have a unique opportunity to assist in maintaining the tradition of intramurals on the UT campus. Please consider this opportunity to give back to this great institution and to a program that helped shape not only our experiences as students but also our lives.
Sincerely,

Ann (Vandivier) Brodnax

"It’s hard to describe the value I place on the four years I played intramurals at UT. Because I played almost every sport offered, I think I ended up with a double major−accounting and intramurals. Great friends were made in the process, and truly, from my heart, I value the experience I had playing intramurals more than any other during my college days." |

"As I look back on my college days at UT, my best memories are the many years that I played Intramural sports. Intramurals gave me an outlet to continue participating in competitive sports and also allowed me to meet lots of other students on campus−including my future husband. I think all students should be given the same opportunity afforded to me without having a significant cost burden associated with playing intramural sports.”

The Intramural Program Today
Over the 69-year history of the Women’s Intramural Program, numbers have increased as the University has grown. Beginning in 1982, a team entry fee ($10) was instituted and today it costs an intramural team $75 to play. In the current economic climate at the University, that fee will continue to increase in order for the Intramural Program to become self-sustaining. It is in this light that the creation of an Intramural Endowment is being proposed.
