RecSports: Teaching
Life Lessons

The Division of Recreational Sports has long been committed to The University of Texas at Austin’s core purpose of “transforming lives for the benefit of society.” Now, the Division has made an additional commitment – to promote the Student Learning Outcomes established by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as a means of measuring student performance. In its quest to achieve these dual goals, Recreational Sports provides students, faculty and staff with the highest quality programs, facilities and services possible, all of which are designed to contribute to the overall well being of each participant.

UT students, faculty and staff accumulate over 3.5 million hours of participation each year. Most notably, over 90 percent of undergraduate students and over 75 percent of graduate students participate in at least one aspect of Recreational Sports. Through this participation, students gain exposure to the University’s core purpose and to the Student Learning Outcomes that the Division endeavors to integrate into their every day lives, namely health and wellness, leadership skills, life skills and community.

The Student Learning Outcomes that the Division has committed to are explained within the pages of this website. You will learn how these learning outcomes contribute to students’ overall success, both inside and outside the classroom, and how the skills they learn will be transferrable and applicable to the many facets of their lives.
