Come cool down with the Adventure Trip Program as we drift and play in the clear waters of the San Marcos River. The San Marcos River is known as the “cleanest river in Texas.” The river literally springs to life from the Edwards Aquifer creating a beautiful clear running river that remains a cool 72 degrees year round. This trip will take us 11 miles down stream form San Marcos to Martindale, Texas. Grab a sack lunch, your swimsuit, and get ready for this unique and refreshing trip down one of Central Texas’ most inviting rivers.

The premier overnight trip in the Rio Grande Gorge. Combines the Lower Taos Box with the Lower Gorge sections of the Rio Grande for a total of nearly 30 miles of Wild and Scenic River. Nowhere else can you find the same quality whitewater in such a remote and pristine canyon with incredible wildlife viewing opportunities contained in the depths of the Rio Grande Gorge below 800 feet of basalt.
The trip begins just outside of Taos at the historic John Dunn Bridge and the confluence of the Rio Grande and the Arroyo Hondo. Through the "Box" (Class IV) we'll experience some of the greatest whitewater and scenery in the southwest. That night we'll pull over to camp on the banks of the river and enjoy an amazing dinner prepared by your guides. In the morning you'll wake up to a hot cup of coffee and a beautiful breakfast before loading up the rafts and continuing downstream. A nice scenic float this morning through the Orilla Verde Recreation Area and the historic village of Pilar gives us a great finish to the trip through the famous whitewater of the Racecourse (Class III) section of the Rio Grande. Transportation by university vehicle to and from New Mexico included.

Looking for more than just a rafting trip? Interested in a trip suited for the outdoor enthusiast in everyone? This is the ultimate adventure and you’ll only find it with UT-RecSports and New Mexico River Adventures.
Our journey begins at the headquarters where the guides will outfit you with all the necessary equipment for the next three days, including camping, mountain biking and rafting equipment. Next we’ll drive north of Taos to the majestic Wild Rivers Recreation area where one of the most beautiful hikes in the Southwest awaits. Breathe in that fresh air as we descend the Rio Grande Gorge via the Scenic La Junta Trail ending on the banks of the Rio Grande near it’s confluence with the Red River. After a relaxing lunch by the river, we’ll continue upstream to get a view of one of the most treacherous rapids on the Rio Grande, Little Arsenic. After some great photo ops by the river we’ll begin the trek out of the canyon. The hike out is steep but also short and usually takes about an hour.
The following day begins with a short drive to the famous Rio Grande Gorge Bridge for an breathtaking view of the canyon and the beginning of our mountain biking segment. The ride parallels the rim of the gorge offering amazing views the entire way. There will be stops along the way with time for snacks and short walks to jaw dropping vistas. The ride culminates in a spectacular downhill all the way to the river where the rafts will be waiting. After a nice float we'll settle into camp on the banks of the Rio Grande and relax while the guides prepare a hearty dinner and breakfast.
The final day takes us through the spectacular class III rapids of the racecourse. This is a wonderful combination of activities for everyone looking for 3 days of adventure in one of the most scenic areas on earth! Transportation by university vehicle to and from New Mexico included.

Bring the entire family and join us on the Rio Chama for the most scenic multiple day river trip in New Mexico. We begin the 33 mile river trip outside of the alpine town of Chama, NM and float down into a stunning and colorful sandstone and limestone canyon finishing up near the renowned artist village of Abiquiu. The upper reaches of the river are well known for the fantastic trout fishing and gorgeous pine trees lining the banks of the river. This stretch of river hides many treasures within the high reaching walls from hot springs to homesteads to ancient dinosaur tracks.
We will spend two nights at camps that are right on the river's edge and backed up by excellent opportunities for hiking and the exploration of numerous side canyons and vistas. We highly recommend that the adventurous types opt for navigating the river in their own craft, an inflatable kayak. We always bring a large oar powered raft to carry the equipment needed for this incredible wilderness experience. Of course there will also be paddleboats that allow everyone the opportunity to be active in our voyage down this Wild and Scenic River. Transportation by university vehicle to and from New Mexico included.
Minimum age for the three day Rio Chama is 5 y/o; children should be adventurous and have some previous outdoor experiences.
