How Your Club Can
Join the UTSCA
The Sport Club Program currently consists of over 40 different student
organizations which make up the University of Texas Sport Club
Association (UTSCA). The Division of Recreational Sports recognizes that other sport-related student organizations might wish to seek recognition in the Sport Club Program. Due to the limited resources available to the Sport Club Program, it may not be feasible to add new clubs.
Criteria
Registered student organizations must meet and maintain the following minimum criteria before applying to become a Sport Club:
- Must be a registered UT student organization in good standing for at least two consecutive years.
- Student interest is demonstrated in the club by a membership of either
- 10 active members or
- the minimum number of members (over 10) needed to participate in the activity.
- Must be an active member of a National Governing Body.
- Must be actively competing in a state/regional collegiate league/conference or competing in at least three collegiate division competitions per year.
- Must demonstrate leadership transition beyond founding members.
- The club’s purpose and activity is appropriate and consistent with the Division of Recreational Sports’ purpose and philosophy.
- A minimal amount of risk is involved in the activity.
- Suitable on-campus or off-campus facilities are available where the club can meet, practice and hold competitions.
- Must be financially self-reliant and must continue operating in such a capacity during a one-year probation period before any UTSCA funding becomes available.
- Must meet initial equipment needs.
- Student needs/interest that the club hopes to meet are not being currently offered in the Sport Club Program or met elsewhere on campus.
- The Sport Club staff has the time and the personnel available to supervise the club and its activities.
Process
Student organizations must demonstrate they meet the above criteria by:
If the above criteria are demonstrated as being met, the student organization must make a formal presentation before the Sport Club Council to illustrate compliance.
The Sport Club Council along with recommendation of the Sport Club Staff will give final approval of membership status.
