RecSports is currently hiring for the part-time positions listed below. 

Position Description

Lifeguard

 

 

Start date: Summer/Fall 2019

 

  • Pay rate: $9.50/hour
  • Opportunities for promotion
  • Flexible scheduling; work 9-20 hours/week.

Supervises the use of swimming pools for various programs. Maintains a high skill level in swimming, approaches, resuscitations, assists and victim removals. Enforces specific pool and safety rules. Maintains a strict alertness to the pool as well as each participant’s swimming ability. Communicates clearly with participants and coworkers. Performs custodial duties and maintenance. Responds to emergencies. Assists the Head Lifeguard or Building Coordinator as needed. 

 

All lifeguard applicants must possess valid Lifeguard Training/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications, preferably from the American Red Cross®. Other acceptable forms include: Ellis & Associates® or YMCA® but must transfer over to American Red Cross® within the first semester of employment. Certifications may not expire during the applicable semester. Employees must attend mandatory inservice training sessions. Skills check and 300 yard swim required prior to interview.

Outdoor Equipment Manager

Start date: Summer/Fall 2019

 

  • Pay rate: $8.75/hour
  • Work 6 hours per week. 
  • Free uniforms

Manages daily operations of the Outdoor Rental Center. Maintains, cleans and repairs outdoor equipment including stoves, lanterns, sleeping bags, backpacks and other outdoor gear. Takes reservations and completes equipment rental contracts. Drives and maintains University vehicles (driving is a non-essential function). Keeps accurate inventory records of equipment use and repair. Provides information to participants regarding local outdoor opportunities. Equipment knowledge is preferred.

Greet and assist customers with enthusiasm and a positive attitude in an office setting. Practice clear, professional verbal communication in person and by phone with customers. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: Attention to detail; regular and punctual attendance. Maintain ongoing knowledge of all program areas (Memberships, Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Fitness/Wellness, Outdoor Recreation, Instructional Program). Ability to learn and follow detailed instructions on office processes and business practices with limited supervision

Digital Communication Student Assistant 

Start date: Summer/Fall 2019

 

  • Pay rate: $9.25/hour
  • Flexible scheduling; work 10-12/week within regualr business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm). Some evenings and weekends required. 

Assist in developing a year-round social media and website plan to promote all RecSports events and program areas. Craft content for use on social media and the RecSports website. Periodically generate reports and provide insight on social media activity, program area performance, and event-related statistics. Prepare recommendations for increasing engagement on a regular basis. Serve as a community ambassador for RecSports programs and services. Assist in the production of various RecSports-affiliated events, including tabling, preparation, setup/breakdown, and general event operations. Work closely with photo/video team to conduct interviews, film special event features, and curate content for use on social media

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience across a variety of social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Attention to detail and creative writing skills. Able to learn quickly, adapt to change, and accomplish multiple tasks. Able to work effectively with others on various projects and events in a team-oriented environment. Maintain a strong familiarity and passion for RecSports programs and services. Proficient in Microsoft Excel. Availability to work within core business hours (8:00am-5:00pm) and select evenings and weekends.

RecSports Ambassador Team

Start date: Summer 2019

 

  • Pay rate: $9.75/hour 
  • Must be available to start employment June 4, 2019 and available through August 15, 2019.

  • Must be available to work late night evenings, specifically Tuesdays in June and July from 9:00pm-1:00am. 

  • Must have availability to work daytime activities, to be scheduled between the hours of 7:00am-6:00pm. 

The RecSports Ambassador Team is for current UT students looking to gain valuable marketing and event panning experience while inspiring active lifestyle on the Forty Acres.  As part of the RecSports Ambassador Team you’ll be the face for RecSports encouraging participation and exploration of the various programs, facilities, and services that RecSports has available to the campus community.  The ideal candidate is an energetic, inclusive team player who wants to motivate others. Excellent presentation and customer service skills are necessary. Each member of the team will bring creativity, energy, openness to collaboration, and problem solving. Team members will embody the RecSports brand and understand the scope of the department’s work.

 

  • Maintain familiarity with the department’s facilities, programs, services, and events as well as relevant purchasing/registration processes. 
  • Plan and execute the weekly Get Hooked on RecSports late night event during the seven-week long UT Summer Orientation program. 
  • Represent RecSports during campus events including Family Orientation, resource fairs, freshman and transfer orientation sessions.
  • Engage with participants during marketing activations and other pop-up activities. 
  • Lead presentations for a variety of audiences including but not limited to new student orientation participants, current students, families, and UT Faculty/Staff members. 
  • Brainstorm creative promotions, hand out giveaways, manage prize redemption, and lead interactive activities.
  • Provide weekly digital reports from all marketing activations including participation totals, insights, and opportunities. 
  • Lead set up, execution, and teardown of all marketing-related events and activations. 
  • Perform other duties that support the RecSports Communications team, as assigned.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and trainings.
