TeXercise Instructor Auditions & Training

RecSports is currently recruiting enthusiastic UT students who have a love for fitness and want to share it with others to join our team of fitness instructors. The best part? You don't have to have any previous experience teaching fitness classes and you'll get paid while we teach you everything you need to know to teach your own TeXercise class.

About the Position

Group fitness instructors play an integral part in teaching a combined 100+ in-studio group exercise classes per week available through the TeXercise program.

New for spring 2024, we are inviting all current UT students interested in learning how to teach fitness classes to apply to audition. Previous experience teaching is not required; students selected will spend the spring term in paid instructor training. 

Upon successful completion of our instructor training program, you will lead group fitness classes and provide support for our participants.

  • Training Program Pay Rate: $13.75 or $15/hour, depending on their related experience level. 
  • Instructor Pay Rate: $16.75-$25.75, depending on certification(s) and experience.
  • Employment Location: Various locations on campus, including Gregory Gym and the Recreational Sports Center.
Selection Process
  1. Complete and submit the RecSports Student Employment Application by Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.
  2. Once our team reviews your application, you will be contacted to complete an in-person audition in at least one format. View audition instructions and formats here. Auditions will take place Jan. 16-19, 2024. 
  3. If offered a position following your audition, you will go through training during spring 2024 and you'll be paid for all hours spent in training. You'll be able to select to attend training on Tuesdays (6:30-9:30pm) or Sundays (1-4pm). You can expect to be in training for 5-6 hours per week. Pay rate will vary based on experience ($13.75 or $15/hour) 
Audition Instructions

If selected for an audition, our team will contact you to schedule. All auditions will take place Jan. 16-19, 2024. Please prepare for your audition by following the the instructions below: 

  • Be prepared to audition in at least one format from the list below:
    • Cycle
    • Dance
    • F45 Training
    • Fitness Formats: Fitness formats may include, but are not limited to: Step, Total Body Strength, Tabata Interval Training, Cardio Kickboxing, Glutes & Core, or Aqua Fit. 
    • Mind and Body: Mind and Body formats may include but are not limited to Yoga Sculpt, PiYo®, Pilates Mat, and any style of yoga.
       
  • Your audition will need to be 15 minutes long. Prepare your audition based on the instructions on the Instructor Audition Packet. Examples can be found on the videos below and you are welcome to copy movement verbatim if needed.
