Gary and Sylvie Crum

Gary Crum, MBA ’72, and his wife, Sylvie Plangman Crum, BA ’74, are ardent supporters of The University of Texas at Austin.  Gary serves on the Board of Directors for the McCombs School of Business MBA Investment Fund and is former chair of the McCombs School Advisory Council. Sylvie is a member of the RecSports Leadership Team that provides consultation and guidance to Recreational Sports. She has also served as the Regent’s representative for the University’s Intercollegiate Athletics Council for Women and is a former chair and current member of the Longhorn Foundation Advisory Council, as well as a member of The Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee.

The couple, who have expressed how much they both appreciate the value of sports in the overall college experience, also generously supports Recreational Sports. In January 2009, the Board of Regents accepted their gift to establish the Sylvie and Gary Crum Endowed Scholarship to be awarded annually to an outstanding student employee of Recreational Sports.

The Crums were instrumental in the renovation of Clark Field, which opened in November 2011 having been transformed into a premier lacrosse field with additional amenities including a refurbished track, new exercise stations, support building and new pedestrian bridge across Waller Creek. At the time of their generous support to the funding of the renovation, their daughter, Clayton BBA ‘12, was a captain on the Women’s Lacrosse Team. Later she was named pre-season Player of the Year from the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division I.

The two UT alumni also generously supported the renovation of the Charles Alan Wright Fields at the Berry M. Whitaker Sports Complex, a multipurpose recreational facility and home to a variety of intramural events, informal recreation and sport clubs. Recreational Sports recognizes their remarkable generosity with the naming of the Crum Family Fields at the sports complex located at Speedway and 51st Streets.
