Susan and Mark Baletka Endowed Scholarship
The Susan and Mark Baletka Endowed Scholarship was established to support undergraduate students who are or who have been employed by Recreational Sports. Preference will be given to those who work or have worked within the Outdoor Recreation Program, which includes Adventure Trips, the Outdoor Center and Climbing Wall. Secondary consideration will be given to students who work or have worked as an intramural official for at least two sports.
Mark began his association with RecSports as a student in 1971 by joining friends to play intramural sports and later working as an intramural official. He is noted for having refereed, in a single year, all of the All-University final competitions for all major sports. As a RecSports student employee, Mark won multiple awards including the Berry M. Whitaker Leadership Award and the Outstanding Official Award.
Serving as an intramural official ignited Mark’s passion for the profession of recreational sports and his pursuit of a master’s in recreation management. He has worked in recreation and recreation facility divisions at several major universities, including The University of Texas at Austin, before leaving academia in the 90s for the private sector. He and his wife, Susan, still share a passion for sports and outdoor recreation and are pleased they are able to help support students with a like-minded passion.
