Adventure Trip Packing List
Participating in an Outdoor Recreation program Adventure Trip? RecSports will provide transportation, group gear, tents, campsite reservations, and food during non-driving parts of the trip. However, you will need to bring personal items and clothing. Suggested packing lists based on the type of trip you are going on can be found below.
When choosing your gear, keep in mind the weather forecast and time of year as rapid weather changes may occur. The following lists are general in nature and are not meant to be exhaustive or tailored to specific needs. Please direct questions to your trip guides during the pre-trip meeting.
Packing List – All Trips
- Clothes – non-restrictive and athletic, appropriate in durability and temperature for the activity (see cold weather section below if applicable)
- Hiking boots or sturdy athletic shoes
- Cap, wide-brimmed hat, bandana, and/or buff
- Personal items - sunglasses, sunscreen, personal medication, etc.
- Water bottle or hydration pack – at least 2 liters (no glass)
- Money for food or snacks during drive
- Pack to carry your items
- Rain gear - jacket with hood and pants (if applicable)
Water-Based Day Trips - Canoeing, Kayaking, Surfing, Swimming, etc.
- Items from list above
- Clothes – comfortable, quick-dry fabrics you can get wet (see cold weather section below if applicable)
- Athletic shoes you can get wet or river sandals with straps (no flip flops)
- Extra pair of shoes and/or dry clothes for car ride home
- Swimsuit and towel if you plan to swim
Overnight or Multiday Trips
- Items from appropriate lists above
- Toiletries
- Bowl and spoon
- Headlamp
- Sleeping bag and sleeping pad (available upon request at the pre-trip meeting)
- Large backpacking backpack (available upon request at the pre-trip meeting)
Cold Weather Trips
- Items from appropriate lists above
- Fleece jacket, sweater or vest
- Wool or synthetic socks and underwear
- Long underwear (synthetic, not cotton)
- Warm jacket as outer layer
- Gloves
- Wool or synthetic hat
- Additional warm layers depending on severity of cold. These could range from light fleece shirts to puffy down jackets.
