Backpacking at Lost Maples
This trip is designed to give beginners an introduction to backpacking and provide the more experienced backpacker with an opportunity to explore Lost Maples State Natural Area. Lost Maples SNA covers 2,174 scenic acres north of Vanderpool on the Sabinal River. The park is an outstanding example of Edwards Plateau flora and fauna. It is a combination of steep, rugged limestone canyons, springs, plateau grasslands, wooded slopes, and clear streams. It features a large, isolated strand of uncommon Uvalde Bigtooth Maple, whose fall foliage can be spectacular!
We will arrive to Lost Maples on Friday afternoon and make a quick 3-mile hike into camp. On Saturday and Sunday, we will hike and explore the landscape and trails before returning to Austin.
